Review

’ve never considered myself as MJ massive or die-hard fan. I didn’t even shed a tear when I heard the sad news of MJ’s death (I’ll save my tears for Bono).

I’m just a regular fan who’s growing up listening to MJ’s songs.

Along the way, I grew tired of MJ – his antics behavior, his strange relationship and all of his cases of sexual harassment. Sadly, his creativity was also doomed to the bottom of the sea. I lost all my interest of him and his music.

Until the day I saw the trailer of This Is It. It opened up the flood gate of memories.

Hence, the reason I watched This Is It was purely sentimental. I would like to recollect the memories of my adolescence’s years with every MJ songs. My first crush – I just can’t stop loving you. My first broken heart – Remember the time. My wildest night – Bad.

And who can forget the coolest dance’s choreographer ever created – Smooth Criminal.

So, I thought that This Is It is some sort of eulogy for MJ.

I was wrong.

This is it was a performance show.

It is a series of MJ last rehearsal for then should be his last tour ever, This Is It, which already sold out for 50 shows. As if we have all access pass into the rehearsal; we can see the audition, the preparation and even the creation of movie backdrop, with one of it with Humphrey Bogart!

Here we can see MJ as a great artist, musician, dancer and performer, not the tabloid headliner. The way he knows every rhythm and notes of all his songs was amazing. And the way MJ calmly handled the frustrating and tense rehearsal situation was surprised me. Not a single word of cursing came out of his mouth, instead he always said “God bless you”.

The energy, concentration and seriousness that MJ showed on rehearsal will put the question whether he’s depressed to rest.

And I have to applaud Ortega who’s successfully stayed away from any tear jearking moment.

Yet, by the time the intro of Man in The Mirror started (my favorite one – by the way), I struggled to hold back my tears. It’s simply because I realized that I just discovered the man I thought I knew.

If you are a MJ fan – This Is It. His swan song. His last bravura performance. Go see it.
